CJ Wilson pitched for the Rangers and the Angels over the course of 12 years before shoulder surgery, in 2015, ended his career — at least in baseball. Wilson has long been a motorsports superfan and, after his time on the mound, he decided to make a go of it as a pro race car driver.
The two disciplines aren’t as different as you might think: “As a pitcher, generally, faster is better,” he’s said. “It’s kind of like driving, and at the same time it’s also about control.”
Hit play on the video above to get a sense of his efforts — as well as his setbacks — to climb the racing ladder. Is Wilson capable of becoming one of the fastest race car drivers out there? If he does succeed, as he is determined to do, he’ll be one of the few true two-sport success stories.
